Ok guys, only 2 days until we start! Now is the time to get prepared....
I suggest that you clean out your kitchen - get rid of all of the non-Whole 30 approved foods & junk, it's much easier to eat clean when you don't have temptations in the house!!
You may also want to take a "before" picture. Don't worry, you don't have to show anyone...but it will be nice to compare at the end of the month! Wear a sports bra & shorts - take one from the front, one from the side and one from the back.
I am getting lots of questions about what to eat/what not to eat....my answer is usually "check out the Whole 30 program outline on the Whole 9 website!!" but it's great to ask now & get clear, keep em coming.
The most common one is "can I have almond milk"?? READ THE INGREDIENTS!! If there is anything that you can't pronounce, or any form of sugar (remember is has many many names), then its a NO.
The other questions is "WHAT DO I EAT???"
It's really quite simple, EAT MEATS & VEGETABLES, NUTS & SEEDS, SOME FRUIT, LITTLE STARCH. NO SUGAR. NO DAIRY. NO LEGUMES. NO BEANS. NO GRAINS.
Matt and I shop at two places: the butcher & the produce store. There really isn't any reason to enter a big grocery store, unless you need some almonds, or toilet paper :)
A good butcher is one that carries organic, free range, grass fed meat & eggs. The butcher in Lynn Valley Mall is fantastic.....we head in there at least once a week to load up. This is what we buy:
- chicken breasts - they have boxes of frozen, individually wrapped, organic chicken breasts - it's so easy to pull one out in the morning, its thawed by the time we get home from work and is ready to be bbq'd, or thrown into a stir fry etc.
- chicken thighs - non medicated, organic & delicious! I always cook a few extra for my lunch the next day
- flank steak - we have an awesome recipe for this - bbq it at the beginning of the week and then have a few slices each morning with eggs.....yumm
- pork chops - free range, very reasonably priced - great with mashed yams & homemade applesauce
- ham - we slice it all up and keep it in a container in the fridge - great for snacking!
- steak - grassfed - great selection
- fish - make sure it's wild! Salmon, prawns, white fish
- ground meat - organic beef, buffalo, turkey - awesome for pale chill, lettuce wraps
- stew beef - so good on a cold night
- eggs - organic, free range. We buy 2 dozen at a time as we eat them every morning, and they are so easy for a snack
Then we head to Kins Market and load up on an assortment of veggies & fruit!!!
Do your best to eat local, sustainable, organic food....when it's an option
One thing that works well for us is that we ALWAYS make extra at dinner, then we pack it up for our lunches at work the next day.
